Thomas Maissen

Thomas Maissenis the director of the German Historical Institute in Paris. From 2002 to 2004, Maissen was Associate Professor at the University of Lucerne and from 2004 to 2013 full Professor of Early Modern History at the University of Heidelberg. Since 2006 he has been a member of the Heidelberg Academy of Science and Humanities. Among other honours, he has been Professeur invité at the EHESS Paris and visiting Fellow at the IAS in Princeton; currently he is Honorary visiting fellow at QMU London. Central areas of his research are the history of political thought and republicanism, history of religion and mentalities, historical iconography and Swiss history.
