José García-Montalvo

Professor of Economics at Pompeu Fabra University

José G. Montalvo is Professor of Economics at the Pompeu Fabra University, and Research Professor at the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics and the IVIE. He holds a PhD in Economics from Harvard University (1993). He was awarded the First National Prize for Undergraduate Studies in Economics (highest national GPA). He has been Visiting Professor at Harvard. He has served as Chairman of the Economics and Business Department at UPF, where he is currently Vice Chancellor for Scientific Strategy. Among other awards Montalvo has received the Prize Rey Jaime I Foundation (2019), the Catalonia Prize of Economics (2018), the Medal for Distinguished Service of the UPF (2017), the Knowledge Transfer Award (2010) and the Fellowship ICREA-Academia (twice, 2009 and 2014). He works regularly as a consultant for international institutions like the OECD, the European Union, the Inter American Development Bank and the World Bank among others. His research agenda includes topics on economic development (ethnic diversity, social conflicts, terrorism, etc.), housing finance and housing markets, and young labor markets.
