Daniel Lowery is a Ph.D. candidate in the Government Department at Harvard University. His research covers topics in historical political economy, authoritarian durability, democratization and democratic backsliding, conflict, and long-run development. He has ongoing research projects on military coups in Thailand, franchise expansion in England, and the socioeconomic effects of Reconstruction in the U.S. South. His dissertation explores how succession institutions of pre-modern monarchies affected political instability and contributed to divergence in comparative political development.
