Akila Weerapana

Professor of Economics at Wellesley College

Akila Weerapana is Professor of Economics at Wellesley College. He has published work in the areas of the economics of higher education, international economics, the economics of conflict, and the political economy. He did his undergraduate education at Oberlin College and his Ph.D at Stanford University. He has served as the Faculty Director of the Pforzheimer Learning and Teaching Center and as the faculty liaison to the Office of Institutional Research at Wellesley College. His current research is in the economics of higher education, particularly in furthering understanding of how college students make crucial academic decisions based on the incentives they face. He is also the author of a widely-used textbook Principles of Economics (10th edition, Flatworld Publishing) with his Ph.D. advisor John Taylor of Stanford University.
