€-coin improves in February, though it remains at negative levels

In February, €-coin remained in negative territory for the twelfth month in a row

  • In February, €-coin remained in negative territory for the twelfth month in a row, though it turned upwards (to -0.31, from -0.56 in January).
  • The still positive signs on employment, which more than offset the persistent weakness in confidence indicators, contributed to the improvement.
  • The €-coin indicator developed by the Bank of Italy provides a summary index of the current economic situation in the euro area. The indicator is an estimate of quarterly GDP growth shorn of the most erratic components (seasonal variations, measurement errors and short-run volatility). €-coin is published monthly by the Bank of Italy and CEPR.

The next publication dates for €-coin are Friday, 29 March 2024 and Monday, 6 May 2024 (to be confirmed).
