Research
Director
The Centre's Research Director has overall
responsibility for the Centre's research programme and for maintaining the
scientific quality of CEPR research. He chairs
meetings of the Centre's Programme Directors. He works with the Programme
Directors, the Chief Executive Officer and the President to develop new research
directions, in particular those which involve more than one programme
area. He also oversees implementation of recommendations of the Centre's
Scientific
Advisory Committee.
Policy Director
The Policy Director works in parallel with CEPR's Research Director.
In particular, the Policy Director will:
-
Coordinate the policy-related work of the Programme Directors
-
Seek to identify policy issues to which existing CEPR research could be applied and appropriate occasions or circumstances for CEPR involvement in the policy debate
-
Consider where new research might make a valuable contribution to the policy debate and encourage CEPR initiatives which might lead to such research
Programme
Directors
Role.
Programme Directors provide intellectual leadership and
direction. They guide and develop the research agenda; maintain high
standards in CEPR research; propose new research
initiatives and contribute to those proposed by Fellows and Affiliates;
participate in obtaining funding both for their programme and for the Centre
as a whole; take part in the Centre's dialogue with the users of research
in the private sector and policy community; oversee the meetings and
publications activities carried out under the auspices of their programme.
And they provide a key ingredient: quality control to help identify the
right people – researchers to participate in CEPR activities and for
appointment as Fellows and Affiliates. In all of these activities,
Programme Directors liaise very closely with CEPR staff, funding bodies
and researchers.
Meetings.
Programme Directors meet at least twice a year: once at
CEPR, with the Directors of other programmes, to discuss issues relating
to the organization of the Centre, its activities, and cross-programme
collaboration; and at least once with their Co-Director(s) to discuss
current and future research and directions, and, with the Appointments
Committee, to discuss the appointment of new researchers and reappointment
of existing Fellows and Affiliates.
Appointment Procedures. With the
Appointments
Committee, Programme Directors are responsible for appointment and
reappointment of Research Fellows, Affiliates and Associates.
New
appointments are made by programme, and potential researchers are
suggested and appointed at annual meetings between
Programme Directors and the Appointments Committee. Researchers
(both Affiliates and Fellows) are appointed to one (or in some cases more)
of CEPR's programme areas, depending on their research fields and
interests. The committee use a number of criteria to determine whether a
researcher is suitable for CEPR: evidence of a strong
potential for collaboration/interaction with other CEPR researchers; publications
in leading
journals, and research interests in line
with those of the programme. A candidate for appointment as Research Affiliate
must
have obtained the PhD.
Appointments are made for fixed terms. Reappointment (or transfer from
Research Affiliate to Research Fellow status)
is based on similar criteria: publications and involvement with CEPR
(CEPR Discussion Papers, participation in CEPR research initiatives
and meetings).
CEPR
also has a commitment to correct the current gender
imbalance within its research networks and has taken steps
to fulfill this commitment.
Researchers
interested in being more closely involved with the activities of one of
our Programmes should contact the Programme Director of the relevant
programme directly, or email a cv
to CEPR.
Scientific
Advisory Committee (SAC)
The
Scientific
Advisory Committee (SAC)
evaluates and provides advice on each programme every two years, on the
basis of reports written by the Programme Directors.
