The working group will be led by a Steering Committee comprising Philippe Bacchetta, Giancarlo Corsetti, Philip Lane, Hélène Rey, Jaume Ventura and Beatrice Weder. MGI will operate under the umbrella of the International Macroeconomics Programme: the IM Co-Directors welcome the creation of the Working Group and encourage IM Fellows and Affiliates to participate in its activities.
MGI will aim to encourage academic research on the macroeconomic aspects of global integration (broadly defined). This includes research on the macroeconomics of exchange rates; capital flows and international trade; the international transmission of shocks; and the design of macroeconomic policies and institutions for an integrated world. We believe that the quantity and quality of research on these topics will increase if we foster interactions among European researchers already working in this area, and if we encourage other European academics (especially new PhDs) to work on these topics.
There have been a range of activities that have taken place under the auspices of the MGI. An annual workshop at which research in progress is presented and discussed first began in 2006. The fourth workshop took place in Florence, from March 6-7, 2009. In addition to this an MGI conference on International Macroeconomics and Finance will be organised in Brussels in February 2009.
Past meetings include:
First workshop: Gerzensee from 3-4 March 2006 (View Programme)
Second workshop: Dublin from 2-3 March 2007 (View Programme)
Third workshop: Barcelona from 28-29 March 2008 (View Programme)
Fourth workshop: Florence from 6-7 March 2009 (View Programme)
