Workshop on Markov Switching Time Series Models
25-27 August 2008
Université de la Méditerranée Aix Marseille 2 – Aix-en-Provence
Objective:
Introduce Markov Switching Time Series Models to advanced PhD students and professional
economists. The topics to be covered include Bayesian VARs, Markov Switching VARs and structural
models with time varying parameters. On each of these topics, the morning session will take the form of a
formal presentation of the concepts used in the formulation and estimation of the econometric models.

Society for Economic Dynamics
Cambridge, MA, July 10-12, 2008
The 19th annual meetings of the Society for Economic Dynamics will be held on July 10-12, 2008 in Cambridge, MA. The plenary speakers are Jim Poterba (MIT), Jose Scheinkman (Princeton), and Per Krusell (Princeton). The program co-chairs are George-Marios Angeletos (MIT), Ariel Burstein (UCLA), Mike Golosov (MIT), and Christian Hellwig (UCLA).
The program will be made up from a selection of invited and submitted papers. The Society now welcomes submissions for the Cambridge program. Submissions may be from any area in economics. A program committee will select the papers for the conference. The deadline for submissions is February 15, 2008. Further details and instructions on how to submit a paper are available at:

Papers are invited for a 3-day conference on the emergence of China and India in the
Global Economy, to be held at the Centre for Economic Performance at the London
School of Economics on 4th-6th July 2008. The general themes of the conference are
the causes and consequences of the acceleration of economic development in China
and India in recent decades, including the implications for other developing and
developed countries around the world.

Peter B. Kenen Visiting Fellowship for 2008 - 2009
Dear Colleagues,
The International Economics Section and the Department of Economics at
Princeton University invite applications for the Peter B. Kenen
Visiting Fellowship for 2008 - 2009.
One or more Fellows will be chosen to spend an academic year in residence
at Princeton as a guest of the Section and the Department.
The Fellow will be given office space and the opportunity to
pursue independent research on any topics in international economics.
The Fellow will receive a stipend as well as a modest fund for research
expenses. More senior fellows may combine our fellowship with other
sources of funding to replace up to the full amount of their academic-year
salaries at their home institutions.
The Fellowship is open to any economist who currently holds a full-time
position in a university or a research organization.
I would appreciate if you would circulate this message to anyone whom you
feel might be interested and a good candidate.

The Bank for International Settlements and the Hong Kong Institute for Monetary Research of the
Hong Kong Monetary Authority are jointly organizing a two-day workshop on the microstructure
of financial markets on September 18th -19th, 2008 in Hong Kong. This initiative aims at
repeating the success of similar events which took place in Oslo (2005), Ottawa (2006) and
Budapest (2007). The workshop will provide an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to
discuss theoretical and empirical issues regarding the microstructure of financial markets and for
researchers studying different financial markets to interact.

conference on the topic of Identifying and Resolving Financial Crises, to be held April 17-18, 2008 in Cleveland.
The organizers are particularly interested in papers related to
- Distinguishing between individual problems and systemic crises.
- Theory and evidence on the resolution of financial firms
- Identifying policies that lead to contagion or correlated risk
- Contingency planning for crises
Papers dealing with other topics concerning financial system stability are also welcome.
