The network's kick-off meeting was held in Brussels on 20/21 October 2000.
The first workshop of the network was held in Barcelona on 23/24 November 2001, and was organized by
Antonio Ciccone and
Philippe
Martin.This workshop was devoted to research in a very wide range of topics at the nexus between economic geography, microeconomics and macroeconomics. Examples of the range of topics of interest: transmission of business cycles, fiscal and monetary policies across regions and countries; and industrial organisation aspects of information transmission across firms within regions or industrial districts. The second workshop was held in Paris on 12-14 December 2002, and organised jointly by J Vernon Henderson (Brown University), Lucrezia Reichlin, Jacques-Francois Thisse and Mathias Thoenig. In all, nineteen papers were presented, of which seven involved members of the Network. Network members also acted as discussants for several of the papers as well as serving on panels which discussed several issues during the course of the conference. Time was reserved during the workshop for the team leaders to meet to discuss the progress of the project future work plans. The meeting programme is included in Annex II.
The third network workshop will take place in Modena on 16-17 May 2003, and is being organised by Graziella Bertocchi and Oved Yosha.
A fourth full Network meeting is planned for May 2004 to be held at Alghero.
