25/3/2011 The Role of Experiments for the Advancement of Effective Labour Legislation , Lucca, Italy

Organizers: Andrea Ichino and Pietro Ichino
This conference brings together economists and law scholars interested in labour markets with the goal of discussing the role of experiments for the advancement of effective labour market legislation. Controlled or natural field experiments have recently enhanced the economists' understanding of how labour markets work and how their functioning can be improved in view of different social welfare objectives. This advancement in knowledge has not yet made its way in the analysis of law scholars. Various kinds of ethical and technical concerns in addition to doubts about the external validity of experiments have raised scepticism among law scholars about the usefulness and social acceptability of experimental research for labour law advancement.
